Intention Setting & Putting Pen to Paper

There are many benefits to intention setting – I mean if you don’t know where you are going, how can you get there? And coupling this with journaling, actually putting pen to paper and writing out the plan, the intention, and establishing a routine of intention-setting, will write you into your positive conclusion – into meeting your goal!

Finding the words that speak to you for the more nebulous intentions can help make sure that these intentions and words are aligned to serve you in attaining tangible goals, in the long and short term. Intention setting helps create more clarity and confidence around goals and connects us to this present moment. Both are things that we gain from a journaling practice – write it into being!

Intention setting in this way can act as a record of your thoughts too and you can then track change, showing an evolution in your intentions over time. You can see where you were and where you are now, and all the progress in between. And you can also notice the intentions that have stayed the same –the ones that there has been no progress on? Why do you seem to be stuck on those particular intentions and goals?

Writing down these intentions focuses our attention and what we focus on magnifies and creates a vibration. Where your attention goes, energy flows.

While there are many ways of doing this – intention and goal lists, journal prompts and even just focusing on one word that you are trying to let go of and one word you are trying to call in – this one is really cool as it helps to remove any block, while calling in something new. For example, “today I am letting go of… and calling in…” We fill the void of what we release with someone positive, otherwise the void gets filled with the negative, intentionality is necessary here!

Remember, this is not a To Do list! This is your intentions and goals, not tasks to be ticked off.

To set good intentions, you need a clear vision. Start with some soul searching. Then, write your intentions down. Revisit your intentions daily, track your progress, and reflect in your journal. It can be that simple – no need to overcomplicate it.

Powerful intentions are as expansive as you want to make them. You have the freedom and the power to become whoever you want to be. And you can go really big here – why not?! You’ll be amazed at how many resolutions or goals you’ll successfully meet when you consciously base them on your intentions.

How to set these intentions in order to get results:

  • Write them down
  • They need to be specific, but not too specific
  • Be flexible, they can change over time
  • Be patient
  • Be positive – list things you want, not those you do not.

Try this and see what intentions you set and what progress you can make before we even make it to the New Year!
